FORM A JUSTICE COALiTION

Start a justice coalition at your church, school, neighborhood, or workplace!

CCO is breathing new life into the local organizing committee (LOC) model in Kansas City! We are helping residents form justice coalitions at their church, neighborhood, school, workplace -- their community -- to organize and work for positive social change.

Justice coalitions can be viewed as CCO chapters or partners of CCO. They are led by and made up of members of the church, school, neighborhood, zip code, or business, and CCO staff are also members, there to guide and support these groups in the art and science of organizing. CCO devotes its resources to helping these coalitions achieve the goals they set for themselves, under an umbrella of shared values. After getting in touch with us, you will:

  • Gather community members to join your group

  • Decide what issue to tackle in your community, relating to one of CCO’s 6 campaigns

  • Work with CCO to strategize how to win social change through pressure on civic or business leaders, ballot initiatives, etc. CCO supports your mission through organizer and leadership trainings, communications (signs, flyers, social media accounts), turnout (e-blasts, phonebanking, canvassing training), direct monetary support, and more.

A printable informational flyer is available here.

Recently, the Northland Justice Coalition passed a ballot initiative that regulated predatory payday lenders, Visitation-CCO raised thousands for food banks and flu shots, and a brand new coalition was formed between a black church and a white church after a joint book study around racial justice. What will you and your group accomplish for your community?
